Summit DD envisions a community built by the abilities of ALL citizens, and great organizations, like the Akron Rotary, help further our vision and strengthen our community. Over 90 years ago, Akron Rotary started a project that has since served over 1,700 children and adults with developmental disabilities throughout Northeast Ohio. Akron Rotary Camp, operated by the Akron YMCA, offers accessible camps for children and adults of all abilities. From an overnight summer camp, to day camps and weekend respite programs, Akron Rotary Camp provides an awesome camp experience full of arts and crafts, sports, games and activities. “We are very grateful to the community for supporting us all these years,” shared Amanda Warner, Director of Volunteer Opportunities and Special Events for the Akron Rotary Camp. “Our campers keep coming back year after year!”
To support the Akron Rotary Camp, golfers will test their skills in the middle of winter at the annual Akron Rotary Chili Open Golf Classic. Money raised from this event will help families attend camp. Amanda explained that because of the Chili Open, no child is ever turned away from attending camp due to their family’s inability to pay. This will be the 26th year for the arctic golf event, which has raised over $2.5 million for the camp, she further shared.
Participants will tee off for a 9-hole round of golf at Hale Farm and Village on February 6. The event will also have a warm-up party with all-you-can-eat chili, beverages, raffles, prizes and more!
