Summit County Developmental Disabilities Board, or Summit DD, believes quality education is important for the growth and development of every child. We also believe in partnering with other community resources to support Summit County. That’s why this year we are proud to be a part of the Building Healthy Kids Conference this November.
The conference presented by First Things First, a Summit County childhood development project, is held annually to provide educational classes that promote early childhood education. It offers educators and child care professionals Ohio-approved training, along with a day full of informative classes aimed at meeting their professional development needs and the needs of the children they serve.
Summit County Executive Russ Pry started the First Things First initiative in 2009 by designating Summit County Family and Children First Council as the lead agency to develop and early care and education system enhancement plan. From this plan, First Things First was created to support the development and education of children and be a resource for families in Summit County.
This year, Building Healthy Kids Conference partners, including Akron Children’s Hospital, Akron-Summit County Public Library, Child Care Connection, Child Guidance and Family Solutions, First Things First, Summit County Public Health, Summit County Educational Service Center and Summit DD, collaborated on a new logo for the conference which was created through Summit DD. The goal was to have a recognizable logo to help promote the conference for years to come. The logo, which shows several elements surrounding a central focal point, is representative of different resources in the community coming together to surround and support children and their families.
“This is just a great day for educators to collaborate and learn,” expressed Lynnette White, Summit DD’s Manager of Community Partnership for Inclusion.
The fifth annual Building Healthy Kids 2015 Conference titled The Power of Early Relationships: Supporting Children’s Social and Emotional Development, will be held on Nov. 21 from 8 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. at the William H. Considine Professional Building, 215 W. Bowery Street in Akron.
