With Memorial Day unofficially kicking off summer, it’s time to have some fun! We’ve compiled some family-friendly summer events to check out and make this the best summer yet.


Saturday, June 20

Autism 5K & Walk/Run: Lace It/Race It/Face It at Lock 3 in Akron
This is a fun, healthy, and effective way to show your support for all those impacted by autism in our community and to raise funds for the Autism Society of Greater Akron (ASGA).  Your generosity helps continue the organization’s vision that all affected by autism have ready access to services and supports needed to be safe, educated, healthy, productive and able to pursue happy and fulfilling lives.  Don’t forget that every dollar raised here stays here in our community!

Friday, June 19
Akron Rubber Ducks vs Erie SeaWolves at Canal Park (BLAST Event)
6:00 pm – 9:00 pm
Game starts at 7:05 pm. Meet us outside the stadium at 6:30 pm.
LIMIT OF 20 PEOPLE: Reservations made on First Come/First Paid Basis
Cost is $8 for the game and $14 if you are interested in the meal deal which includes a hot dog, chips and a drink. *Please bring money to buy your own refreshments if you are not participating in the meal deal.

Saturday, June 20
Free Touch-A-Truck at Tallmadge Recreation Center
10 am – noon
Children of all ages can touch, climb on and explore vehicles of all shapes and sizes in the parking lot of the Recreation Center. In addition to Tallmadge City vehicles, you’ll
 be able to take a look at mail trucks, army vehicles and other cool surprises.  Held at 46 N. Munroe Rd., Tallmadge, OH 44278

Father’s Day Events

Sunday, June 21
Half Price Admission for Dad at the Akron Zoo
10 am – 5 pm
It’s Dad’s Day at the Akron Zoo! All dads and grandfathers get 50% off admission.

Day Out with Dad at the Pro Football Hall of Fame
9 am – 12 pm
Dads, spend a day bonding with your kids at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium with football skills and drills. Share your experience with Gold Jacket Anthony Muñoz and his son Michael Muñoz. Enjoy a tour of the Hall of Fame. Lunch vouchers from Chick-fil-A (Registration begins at 8am. PFHOF Tours: 12 pm-8 pm)
 Cost: $35 for Dad and up to 4 kids.

Father’s Day Special at Downview Sports Center
Any Father/Grandfather receives FREE admission to miniature golf or a small basket of balls or 4 batting cage tokens when a child/grandchild purchases the same

58th Annual Father’s Day Car Show at Stan Hywet
9 am – 4:30 pm
On display are 400 classic, antique and collector cars manufactured from 1925-1990. As a nod to our 100th anniversary, the car show has a special class of cars 100 years and older. The Inner Circle in front of the Manor House features pristine examples of classic cars from 1940-1944. Discover new cars destined for greatness at the Future Classics display and stop by the Fast Lane to see the latest products and services for every car enthusiast.
Cost: Tickets: $11 per adult ($14 non-member), $5 per youth (age 6-17) (46 non-member)

June 27
BLAST Putt Putt Golf
12:00 pm – 3:00 pm
BLAST members, join us for a fun filled afternoon of Putt Putt Golf!
One Round of putt putt will cost $5.00, you will be in a group of four. If you have someone you want to play with write it on your RSVP and we will match you up the best we can!

Fairlawn 4th of July Parade
6:30 pm 
The parade begins at Fairlawn Town Center and travels west on West Market Street to Summit Mall.

Stow Fourth of July Parade
10 am 
Kent Shopping Center and travels down Kent Road past Holy Family Church, and ends at Park Drive.

Akron Symphony Orchestra 4th of July Pops Concert
4 pm; Fireworks at 9:45 pm

Hudson Fireworks

July 5

July 13 – 17
4th Annual iCan Bike Camp
8:30am, 10:05 am, 11:20am, 2:00pm and 3:35pm

Held at the Copley High School Auxiliary Gym located at 3807 Ridgewood Road Copley.
This 5-day camp teaches individuals of all different abilities how to ride a two-wheel bicycle without training wheels.
Camp accepts 40 riders on a first-come, first-served basis.  Riders attend the same 75 minute session each day for 5 consecutive days.  There are 5 sessions offered each day at
ASGA fundraises to offer this camp to families paying out-of-pocket for a cost of $175 ($250 value).  This is a registered camp with the Summit County Developmental Disabilities Board; however, if the camp is funded using Family Support dollars, the cost is $250 as the supplement to parents is provided by the agency instead of ASGA.

Summit County Fair


August 15
15th Annual Northeast Ohio Buddy Walk
Registration opens at 9 am, Buddy Walk steps off at 10 am, Post-walk celebration till 1 pm.
Experience the thrill of walking on the warning track at Progressive Field (weather permitting) while enjoying the sites of downtown Cleveland on this 1-mile wheel-friendly walk in celebration of individuals with Down syndrome.


Free Outdoor Family Movie at Falls River Square 
Thursday evenings, June 4 – August 13

Cartoons begin just after dusk / The Movie begins at dark. TJK Concessions will be available on site to serve snacks, treats and non-alcoholic beverages. Strollers are welcome and you may bring your own chairs, however, stadium style seating is available. Although you love them, please leave your pets at home.

Concert Series

FREE Outdoor Summer Concerts in Summit County
June 8 – August 12, 7 – 9 pm

The concert series in the parks has become an Akron tradition. Bring your chair, have a picnic dinner, catch up with your neighbors and enjoy the weekly free concerts. All of the bands are family friendly and refreshments are offered at each site.

  • FREE Monday Evening Concerts at Hardesty Park (1615 W. Market Street)
  • FREE Tuesday Evening Concerts at Firestone Park (1480 Girard Street)
  • FREE Wednesday Evening Concerts at Shadyside Park (1235 Kenmore Boulevard)
  • FREE Thursday Evening Concerts at Akron Art Museum (One South High Street)
  • FREE Friday Evening Concerts at Goodyear Heights Metropark (2077 Newton Street)

Lock 3 Live Summer Concert Series
Friday, May 29 through Saturday, September 5, 2015.
Many shows are free. Some require an admission fee (typically $5-$10)

Free Summer Concert Series at Keyser Barn and Food Truck Frenzy
Sundays, June 14, July 12 and August 9
4:00 – 5:30 pm kids activities, band performs at 6 pm
The event is free to attend, just pay for food! Bring a chair or blanket to enjoy the music & food in a beautiful park setting!
