The Season of Giving

At Summit DD, our employees strive to provide quality services for the people we support. They’re a determined and dedicated bunch. Plus, throughout the year, they go above and beyond by choosing to coordinate and participate in various community efforts. At the end of 2014, Summit DD staff spearheaded several great initiatives during the season of giving.

No Shave November
In an effort to raise awareness and funds for prostate and testicular cancer, several Summit DD staff members participated in No Shave November. For the entire month they abstained from shaving. “We got a few questions at first, but once they heard what it was about, they thought it was cool,” SSA Robert Downing said about the team’s purpose. “It’s important for people to pay attention,” Rob continued. “You can’t think, ‘it isn’t going to happen to me.'”

Food Drive
“The Akron-Canton Food Bank is a valuable resource used by many people we support. It’s our responsibility to contribute and raise awareness,” shared SSA Nick McCoy. In just one month’s time, Summit DD staff contributed over 2,500 lbs. of food!

The Holiday Giving TreeIMG_0940
At the end of November, Summit DD staff decorated a Holiday Giving Tree with 250 ornaments detailing gift requests from individuals we support. From warm winter clothes and home supplies, to children’s toys and grocery gift cards, the ornaments were full of essential needs. In only a few weeks, staff picked apart the tree until every gift request came true!

Our Agency is determined to support and foster a committed workforce while providing a positive environment in which to work. Be on the lookout for future initiatives from our amazing team.
