Winter Activities Guide

Don’t let the cold weather keep you inside the house this winter. There are so many fun activities happening in Summit County this season that the whole family will enjoy. Get bundled up and check them out!


Akron Art Museum Family Days: Family days at the Art Museum offer families an opportunity to learn and create together. In January, you can experience the impact Martin Luther King, Jr. had on the world while exploring the creative process, listening to local musicians and touring the museum’s contemporary collection. In March, the Art Museum is teaming up with The Nightlight Cinema for an afternoon of engaging family films with hands-on film inspired activities to follow.

Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad: View wildlife and scenery in the comfort of climate-controlled train cars. Get on and off at any station. Spend a whole day exploring or just a few hours. 2016 Victory Gallop’s Swingin’ for Victory Pro-Am Event: Join Victory Gallop as they host their annual Pro-Am tennis tournament fundraiser. Hosted by Springside Racquet & Fitness Club, this event will feature tennis stars such as Mardy Fish, Lisa Raymond and more. All proceeds to benefit Victory Gallop, a non-profit, therapeutic riding program. For tickets or information, contact Victory Gallop.


Jim Gill ConcertOne of the most highly anticipated kid’s concert of the year is here! Kids go crazy over the musical styling of Jim Gill with catchy songs the whole family will enjoy. Jim Gill concerts offer an inclusive environment for kids of all abilities to dance and play together!

13th Annual Portage Lakes Polar Bear JumpAre you willing to take the plunge?! Join in February 20th at the Portage Lakes State Park Beach as participants jump into freezing cold water together to raise money for the Ronald McDonald House and Camp Quality USA! Registration required.

Ohio Winter Special OlympicsLooking for some sports excitement? Come cheer or participate in this year’s Ohio Winter Special Olympics! Cross-country and downhill skiing events at Brandywine Ski Resort and Ice skating at Kent State University’s Ice Arena.
