Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Comes to Summit County

The 2013 Ohio Law Enforcement Torch Run Presented by The Kroger Company will take place June 23 – 28th across Ohio.  The officers will carry the “Flame of Hope” through over 150 communities, creating awareness of Special Olympics and raising funds for the program.  The Torch Run culminates in the Final Leg coming into Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium to pass the “Flame of Hope” to the Special Olympics athletes and signifies the official start to the Summer Games.

Summit DD Begins Talks to Increase Inclusion for Adults

Summit DD funds and coordinates day services for more than 1,800 adults, including community-based employment and center based services.  More than 1,500 of those adults in Summit County receive their day service in a center-based setting.  National trends indicate that the most integrated environment is integrated community employment where individuals make at least minimum wage and work along side those without disabilities, Ohio has followed suit with the Governor’s proclamation declaring Ohio and Employment First state in 2012.  In order to expand opportunities for integrated employment opportunities, Summit DD has begun to evaluate it’s community- and center-based adult services. Eagle Scout Project to Benefit Summit DD Ellet Center

The County of Summit Developmental Disabilities Board (Summit DD) will be unveiling three, new raised garden beds for its garden club.  The unveiling will be held on Friday, May 31, 2013, at 10:30 a.m., at its Ellet Center, 2420 Wedgewood Drive in Akron.  The garden beds were donated and built by Devon Pangburn as part of his Eagle Scout Service Project.
