Quade Appointed to Summit DD Board

Tallmadge, Ohio – The County of Summit Developmental Disabilities Board is pleased to announce the appointment of Thomas Quade as its newest member. Quade was appointed and confirmed by the Summit County Executive and Council for a 4 year term from January 2010 through December 2013. 

As the brother and legal guardian of a person with a developmental disability, Thomas Quade will bring to his new position background and insight similar to many Summit County families who are served by the Summit DD Board. Quade also offers the board his extensive professional experience in public health, having worked for the past ten years with the Akron health Department, as well as service with the Northeast Ohio Universities College of Medicine, World Health Organization, Connecticut Emerging Infections Program, Yale School of Public Health and the United States Peace Corps. Currently, Quade serves as the Interim Director of the Akron City Health Department where he is responsible for all administrative, personnel and fiscal functions including budget management. Quade’s education includes a Master’s in Public Health from Yale University and Master’s of Arts from University of Cincinnati.

Jacqueline Cooper and Olivia Demas were also reappointed by the County Executive and confirmed by the County Council with 4 year terms beginning January 2010 through December 2013. The Summit DD Board held it’s election of officers during its regular January Board Meeting. The officers selected to serve during 2010 include William Ginter as president, Joseph Siegferth as vice president and Cynthia Walker as secretary. The Summit DD Board is one of 88 county boards established by Ohio Law and in existence since 1967. The responsibility of the seven member board is to act on matters regarding the agency’s business, budgets, and program planning. The board is completed with the membership of Randy Briggs.

The County of Summit Developmental Disabilities Board is an agency that provides services to more than 4,000 individuals with disabilities and their families in Summit County. It is the organization’s mission to be a primary community force that enables eligible individuals to work, live, learn, play and participate as equal citizens in their communities. The driving forces behind these efforts are the agency’s board members, as well as staff, families, affiliated agencies, advocates and the individuals served by the organization. The agency’s administrative offices are housed in the Weaver Learning Center, 89 East Howe Road in Tallmadge, Ohio. The Summit DD also operates ten community service centers including Akron Center, Barberton Center, Canal Place, Coventry Center, Cuyahoga Falls Center, Ellet Center, Tallmadge Center, Twinsburg Center, Southern Center and Potomac Center.
