Akron Aeros Host 1,000 With Disabilities

Friday, July 22, 2011

Over 1,000 people with disabilities will be in the stands to support the Akron Aeros while they take on the New Jersey Trenton Thunder. The County of Summit Developmental Disabilities Board has teamed up with Akron Aeros and the City of Akron to give people with disabilities a great evening of fun and baseball on Tuesday, July 26th.

The 8th annual event, People First at the Park, kicks off in Lock 3 Park with an old-fashioned picnic complete with hotdogs and live entertainment followed by a baseball game in Canal Park Stadium at 7:05 pm, where the Akron Aeros take on the New Jersey Trenton Thunder! The evening is sponsored by the City of Akron, Akron Aeros, Charlie Shook Catering, Tasty Pure Foods, 91.3 The Summit, Party for a Living, Freddie the Frog and The Gift Gallery by Weaver.

Just before game time, during the opening ceremony on first base, we will recognize the “Champions of the Summit DD” as the Spirit Day winners throw the first pitches of the game. Spirit Day contestants were judged by Orbit during his visit to eleven Community Work Centers and Calico Day Care Center all operated by the Summit DD Board. One winner, Meredith Rang, resides in Tallmadge and is an employee at the Weaver Industries Tallmadge Work Center.
