United Way Day of Action 2016

Summit DD staff worked together to make an impact in the community for United Way of Summit County‘s Day of Action on June 17! Over 50 staff members spent their time at EMERGE Counseling Services for the annual volunteer day. Volunteers helped beautify both the inside and outside of the Akron non-profit, which provides counseling and mental health services. From landscaping and spreading mulch around the building to painting interior walls and working on small renovation projects, everyone put in hard work to make a difference.

My time spent serving at EMERGE Counseling Services through United Way Day of Action was a fun and rewarding experience working to support a local organization that is committed to helping the same community that Summit DD is committed to serving. I feel like on that day we were making a double impact in our community- how awesome is that!” shared Summit DD staff member Kristen Olesky. “The day definitely promoted teamwork and collaboration by allowing the various departments the opportunity to work together, get to know each other on a more personal level, and just have fun!”

Several other corporate and individual volunteers also dedicated time to give back that day, volunteering at locations across Summit County for the United Way initiative.

Building inclusive communities for citizens of all abilities is one part of Summit DD’s strategic plan. This year, almost 200 Summit DD staff members volunteered at 7 locations across Summit County. The Agency plans to continue giving back to the community through volunteering and participating in activities such as Downtown Akron Partnership’s Green & Clean and Akron-Canton Foodbank Food Drives.
