Making Akron Beautiful: Green and Clean 2016!

Summit DD Teams came together to make Akron beautiful for Downtown Akron Partnership’s Green and Clean! Starting on Earth Day, April 22, and every Friday through May 20, members of the community pitched in to clean up Downtown Akron for the sunny summer months ahead. Teams from Summit DD’s Ellet, Barberton, Southern and Tallmadge Centers participated in the yearly clean up event.

Volunteers from Summit DD’s Southern Center had their gardening gloves on and ready to pull as many weeds as they could by the canal between Lock 2 and 3, while Summit DD Tallmadge Center volunteers picked up trash around Lock 3. Earlier in May, volunteers from Summit DD’s Ellet Center wiped down tables and benches in Lock 3 to get ready for the summer concerts. Summit DD’s Barberton Center Team was in charge of cleaning up Lock 4.

Jim, a volunteer from Summit DD’s Barberton Center, was ready to pick up any trash he could find while enjoying a sunny Friday morning. He said he was ready to clean! “It was great, the team did great and we really enjoyed it,” shared Summit DD staff member Cindy Tonkovich on participating in Green and Clean this year. “The organizers were really nice and they really helped us along. It makes you feel good to volunteer.”

Great job to everyone who participated. Downtown Akron looks awesome!

There are even more great events coming up around the community, like the Akron Autism 5K/Walk and United Way Day of Action. Check out our events calendar to find out more!
