The Future of Assistive Technology at Summit DD

Assistive technology is an umbrella term that encompasses many different types of technologies but can be best described as, “any device that helps an individual with a disability improve their capabilities.” Often a complicated, high-tech device comes to mind when thinking of Assistive Technology (AT) but in reality it can be as simple as walkers, large print keyboards or even an ergonomically designed fork that better fits the hand of the individual using it. Summit DD Hosts Community Meetings to Discuss Changes

(Tallmadge, Ohio) – Summit County Developmental Disabilities Board, or Summit DD, is hosting a series of community meetings to discuss a new Center for Medicaid Services (CMS) rule that went into effect in March 2014. The rule states that federal Medicaid funds can no longer be used to pay for Waiver services that have the effect of isolating people.  Further, CMS says an organization cannot provide both case management and services to individuals with disabilities because there is a conflict of interest.
