Meet Charla! She has worked in the grocery business for over 32 years. “I spent 14 years at Tops Market and then when they closed I came to Dave’s Market. I’ve been with Dave’s for 18 years,” Charla said proudly. “I love seeing the people just come and go in the store. They’ll all just traveling in different chapters of their lives,” she continued.
Summit DD supports Charla using local levy dollars provided by Summit County residents. These funds allow her to receive essential independent employment supports provided by Weaver Industries. Charla coordinates her supports with her Summit DD Service and Support Administrator (SSA), Rhonda Mallard.
“I’ve been on her team since 2008. Wow, time flies! The supports that Charla has received over the years from her locally funded services are invaluable. Charla not only has a job, but a place where she is welcomed, respected and empowered to live her best life,” shared Rhonda.
As her Summit DD SSA for nearly 20 years, Rhonda has watched Charla grow and achieve so much. An SSA is the cornerstone of disability service delivery. Charla and Rhonda work very closely on an annual basis to form an Individualized Service Plan, known as an ISP. It helps to identify her goals, who her support team is, and what type of resources will help her thrive in the community.
“I hope you know how much you inspire others with the work you’ve done in your community,” Rhonda said sincerely to Charla. With a proud smile, Charla responded “…thank you!”
A 32-year career is an astounding achievement. When Charla was asked if she planned to retire soon, she responded “…I’ve got at least 10 to 15 years left. This is what I do. This is what I like to do!”
