Our Family to Yours: A DSP Success Story

Meet Jibreel, Sahir and Nadir—they’re not only brothers, but Jibreel and Nadir are also Direct Support Professionals for Sahir.

When the pandemic hit, Jibreel had a difficult time finding the right disability services for his brother. “He was just sitting there every day. My mom and dad were slowing down. So I decided to just take him into the community on my own so he can feel more fulfilled,” Jibreel recalled. “Then other families started to notice what I was doing, and asked if I offered these services to others,” he continued.

Since that time, Jibreel has opened Beautiful Minds, a private developmental disability service provider in Fairlawn. They provide residential and adult day program services for about a dozen individuals now. Jibreel also brought on his younger brother Nadir as an employee. “It’s all in the family!” Jibreel said with a smile.

“There have been some very challenging situations, particularly over this past year, when it was unclear how an individual that we serve would be able to continue to live safely in our community. Jibreel and his team have eagerly stepped into these type of situations and have made a great, positive impact,” commented Joe DiFranco, Summit DD Assistant Director of Community Supports and Development. “We take pride in helping people through difficult times,” shared Jibreel.

When asked how they came up with the business name Beautiful Minds, Jibreel said with a smile “…it came from my mom actually! She thought of the name years ago and planned on starting a business like this, but life happens and things didn’t work out. So when I decided to go on this path, I asked her if I could take the name.” And in fact, things have come full circle for Jibreel’s mother, because she is also now an employee at Beautiful Minds. “We just want people to know that this place is where different is beautiful!” Jibreel concluded.

Summit DD helps support more than 840 agency and independent providers throughout the entire county. These direct support professionals are essential in making sure the 5,000+ people with developmental disabilities served by Summit DD are able to live fulfilled and happy lives in our great community. Join us in applauding their amazing efforts!
