Summit DD Board Launches Superintendent Search, Invites Public Input

The Summit County Board of Developmental Disabilities Board has launched a search for the organization’s next Superintendent following the retirement announcement of current Superintendent Lisa Kamlowsky, effective December 31, 2026.

Board President Allyson V. James said the Board is seeking a visionary and collaborative leader who understands the evolving needs of individuals with developmental disabilities and the importance of strong community partnerships.

“Lisa Kamlowsky’s leadership has had a lasting impact on Summit DD, the people we support, and the broader Summit County community,” said James. “As we begin this important search process, the Board is committed to identifying a leader who will continue building on that strong foundation while guiding the organization into the future with innovation, collaboration, and fiscal responsibility.”

Lisa Kamlowsky has served Summit DD for more than 30 years, including the last five years as Superintendent and previously as Assistant Superintendent. She also made history as the organization’s first female Superintendent.

During her tenure, Kamlowsky led several transformative initiatives that strengthened supports and expanded opportunities for individuals with developmental disabilities and their families throughout Summit County. Key accomplishments include:

  • Successfully transitioning school-age students with developmental disabilities to their home school districts, increasing access to education in the least restrictive environment within their own communities.
  • Guiding the transition to federal Medicaid waiver funding, significantly increasing federal support for home and community-based services while maximizing local tax dollars to serve more eligible individuals and families.
  • Expanding the capacity of local childcare centers to support children with developmental disabilities, including children with complex medical needs, increasing access to inclusive early childhood experiences.
  • Advancing evidence-based Early Intervention practices that empower families and support children’s development through everyday routines and natural environments.
  • Strengthening partnerships with schools, employers, community organizations, and local leaders to promote a more inclusive Summit County where people of all abilities can fully participate in community life.

The Board is seeking candidates with a strong understanding of county board services, Medicaid funding systems, local tax levies, and public sector leadership. The position requires an experienced leader who can effectively guide a complex organization, build strong partnerships, influence policy at the state and local levels, and maintain a focus on person-centered services and long-term sustainability.

As part of the search process, the Board is also inviting community members, families, staff, providers, and partners to share feedback about the qualities and priorities they believe are important in Summit DD’s next Superintendent. Community input will help inform the search and selection process.

The survey is available online through June 14.

Summit DD serves approximately 6,000 individuals and families and employs approximately 300 staff members. The organization’s mission is “Helping people of all abilities reach their full potential, one person at a time,” with a vision that “Summit County is a community where people feel included.”

The search is being coordinated in partnership with the Ohio Association of County Boards of Developmental Disabilities.
