2023 Inclusive Summer Activity Guide

Looking for fun activities to keep you busy during the summer months? Well you’re in luck, because we compiled this comprehensive list with loads of inclusive events and activities to choose from.

Summer Events and Activities

Canton Palace Theater Sensory Cinema Series

  • June 19 (Soul), June 26 (Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile, July 3 (DC League of Super-Pets), July 10 (Hotel Transylvania 4: Transformania), July 17 (Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch), July 24 (Puss in Boots: The Last Wish), July 31 (Encanto), August 7 (Turning Red)
  • The Canton Palace Theatre presents Sensory Cinema, a theatre experience tailored to patrons with sensory processing disorders and their families. Lights are dimmed, sound is lower, and dietary sensitive offerings are available in the concession stand. Admission is only $2.

Zoothing Hours at the Akron Zoo

  • July 15, August 6, and September 16 from 9-10AM
  • The zoo will open an hour early for guests with special needs who don’t like crowds or loud noises.
  • If you can’t attend the Zoothing Hours, the Akron Zoo is certified sensory-friendly by KultureCity. Which means you can attend year round and the zoo will give you access to sensory bags, quiet spaces, social stories and more. Details here.

Northeast Ohio Buddy Walk

  • August 5 at 9AM
  • The Buddy Walk was created by the National Down Syndrome Society in 1995 to promote the acceptance and inclusion of people with Down syndrome.

Akron Children’s Museum

  • ACM works with Summit DD and exhibit designers to ensure that young visitors are included in all of the fun! Elements such as exhibit height, wheelchair accessibility, and multisensory components are incorporated. In addition, ACM partnered with KultureCity to improve their ability to assist anyone with sensory sensitivites.

Summit Metro Parks is Autism Friendly

Akron-Summit County Public Library is Fully Inclusive

  • The library is an inclusive all-star! They provide countless resources to be sensory-friendly, dementia-inclusive, mobility-accessible, and so much more.
  • Check out their year round events.

Rock & Roll Hall of Fame

  • Resources available throughout the entire year
  • The museum has full accessibility for wheelchairs, plus sensory bags and tools to make your visit comfortable.

Cedar Point Fun for All

  • Resources available throughout the entire 2022 Season
  • First and foremost, Cedar Point is about fun. Fun for everyone. Here you’ll find everything you need to know about navigating and enjoying the park and all of its experiences for those with disabilities.

Home Depot Kids Workshops

  • Home Depot is not just for adults! The store offers DIY projects for even the youngest builders. The free Home Depot Kids Workshop offers a different building project each month and provides a safe, creative and hands-on parent-child experience.

Sky Zone Sensory Hours

  • Enjoy the freedom of jumping. Sensory hours provide a quieter, toned-down jumping experience for those with special needs.

Chuck E. Cheese Sensory Sensitive Sundays

  • Chuck E. Cheese is proud to support families who have children with autism and other special needs. We offer a sensory-friendly experience on the first Sunday of every month at participating locations, opening our stores two hours before their normal opening time. Our Sensory Sensory events include a trained and caring staff that work to ensure each guest has a fun-filled visit. We realize that the Chuck E. experience can be very stimulating for any child, so our mission is to create an event that allows ALL kids to be a kid.
