As parents, one of our very first (and most important) jobs is feeding our child. But eating isn’t as automatic as it might seem. Our bodies are designed to prioritize breathing first, not eating. That means babies and toddlers have to learn how to pause their breathing long enough to swallow safely, and that takes coordination and practice.

Summit DD has gone through an extensive strategic planning process this year. In planning for the future, we sought the input of people and families we serve, our employees, local providers, and other community stakeholders to map out our 2025-2030 Long Range Plan goals. This plan is instrumental in helping us set and achieve the priorities that will ultimately support more than 5,000 people with disabilities and their families, and maintain the trust and confidence our community has placed in us.

Summit County Public Health (SCPH) is conducting a Community Health Assessment to identify what characteristics of a healthy community are most important to Summit County residents. SCPH is looking for input from individuals with developmental disabilities and their families about what is important to them and to help shape the public health priorities for the next several years. If you are interested in providing this input in a 30–60-minute focus group facilitated by SCPH please let us know at pr@summitdd.org. You input can help create a positive impact for year to come. Please respond by May 17, 2022 to participate.

The Summit County Board of Developmental Disabilities Board has launched a search for the organization’s next Superintendent following the retirement announcement of current Superintendent Lisa Kamlowsky, effective December 31, 2026. Board President Allyson V. Beginning Monday, May 19, 2025, the Center for Marketing and Opinion Research (CMOR) will launch Summit DD’s annual survey to gather feedback on the needs and satisfaction levels of individuals we serve, as well as their parents and guardians.
