David “Dave” E. Dohnal served on the Summit County Developmental Disabilities Board (Summit DD) as a Board Member, Vice President and President from January 1997 through December 2008. Dave was reappointed to the Summit DD Board to serve a term commencing January 2012 through December 2015 and was subsequently reappointed to another term of January 2016 through December 2019. Dave was recently reappointed again to another term commencing January 2020 through December 2023.
Additionally, he serves on the Board of the Ohio Association of County Boards (OACB) of Developmental Disabilities as a Board Trustee and Past President from 2002-2007 and was reappointed as a Board Member in 2013 and continues to serve in that capacity.
Dave also currently serves on the Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities (DODD) Abuser Registry Panel External Review Committee and is a Past Board Member with Advocacy and Protective Services (APSI). He now participates as a member of the APSI Community Advisory Committee. Dave previously volunteered for many years with the Red Cross of Summit and Portage Counties. He also participated on the Governor’s Victim’s of Crime Task Force from 2004-2006.
Dave has been appointed to Attorney General Yost’s Task Group, charged with reviewing and dealing with situations of abuse towards individuals with developmental and other disabilities.
Dave attended Mount Union College where he majored in history and political science and earned his B.A. He received his J.D. from the University of Michigan, School of Law.
Dave retired from The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company as the Assistant General Counsel. Prior to that, he held the position of Vice President of The Kelly Springfield Tire Company and previously worked as the Secretary and Counsel for the Motor Wheel Corporation.
Dave resides in Akron, Ohio with his wife of 60 years, Susan. They have three children and one grandchild. Their youngest daughter, Heather, was born with a developmental disability and currently receives services from Summit DD.
