Welcome to the first edition of Summit DD’s new e-newsletter. This monthly newsletter replaces the Outreach publication you have received in the past.

The Agency’s mission to enable individuals with developmental disabilities to work, live and learn as equal citizens in their communities is best demonstrated through the stories of people, programs and innovative ideas happening at Summit DD. We encourage you to share this newsletter with your friends, family and coworkers.

What 47% of Residents Don’t Know… yet.

Almost half of the residents of Summit County do NOT believe that children with special needs should be included in classrooms with their typically developing peers.  Although sentiment has improved over the past five years, this is a shocking and sobering statistic.  There is a great deal of work to be done in educating others about developmental disabilities and the importance of inclusion.  Summit DD’s CPI program was designed to do just that. Summit DD Celebrates DD Awareness and Urges People to Get the Facts

National DD Awareness Month began in 1987 through a proclamation issued by President Ronald Reagan.  His intentions were to mark the month through activities and efforts directed toward increasing public awareness about the needs of Americans with developmental disabilities.  In the proclamation Reagan urges Americans to increase awareness and support people with developmental disabilities. To date, much progress has been made with DD awareness, but there is still work to be done. Read More ›
