Looking Back on 2017

Season’s Greetings

The chill in the air the past few mornings is a clear reminder that winter, a new season, will soon be upon us. As 2017 comes to a close, we’d like reflect on a transformative year for Summit DD. First and foremost, we passed our levy with overwhelming support from Summit County residents, elected officials, private service providers, and countless other community partners. Summit DD Announces Final Plans to Comply With Federal Mandate

Summit County Developmental Disabilities Board, or Summit DD, began its transition plan, Our Journey Forward, more than 18 months ago.  This plan ensures the Agency complies with Federal Medicaid rules to offer more inclusive programs and to eliminate the conflict of interest that occurs with the County Board as both a provider of service and a funder and coordinator of those same services.

Last January the Agency released a detailed timeline to eliminate the conflict of interest by gradually transitioning individuals from Summit DD provided adult day, transportation and community employment programs to private providers.

My Story – Brad

Life is full of transition points. They’re the moments you look back on and reminisce. Moments where a single decision changed everything. For a young man named Brad, his big turning point came about a year ago. “I remember it just hit me. He needs to try something new,” recalled Brad’s mother, Diane. For many years, Brad attended Summit DD’s Tallmadge Center. He was happy and had made many friends, but Diane felt at times he was “…standing still,” she shared. So together they embarked on new path that’s changed Brad’s life for the better. Read More ›
