Summit DD is committed to supporting people to live as independently as they want. In some cases, this is made possible using technology. Remote supports and assistive technology are two options that can provide more autonomy and safety for adults with developmental disabilities. Find out how Summit DD and our partners plan to use a grant to fulfil this goal.

Summit DD take prides in connecting people with developmental disabilities to the services they need to thrive. It takes months and sometimes years of teamwork and collaboration across internal Summit DD departments and external organizations. But our dedicated team members and community partners never shy away from pursuing what’s best for those we serve.

In late-2022, Summit DD launched a Smart Home to showcase the impact that assistive technology can have on the lives of people with developmental disabilities. In 2023, the Smart Home was toured by nearly 500 people throughout the community, including individuals served, parents, disability providers, and many more.

Summit County kicked off Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month in record-breaking style! Over 25,000 people united to celebrate Inclusion Day…showing that our great community is strongest when everyone is included!

Summit DD’s MUI Department and Community Supports & Development Department presented best practices about the power of collaboration to improve health and safety at the 2023 OACB Winter Conference . The training included: Discuss ways Summit DD’s MUI Team utilizes data and other agency resources for MUI prevention Discuss the partnership between Summit DD and The Summit County Sheriff’s Dept. Meet Brittany! She was recently hired by Summa Health after participating in two innovative employment initiatives funded by Summit DD. When asked how she feels about being employed, Brittany replied “…I feel excited! And I feel really comfortable working in the community!”

Did you know that Summit DD’s Summer Youth Work Experience and Career Exploration Program is just one of the many initiatives funded by local tax dollars provided by Summit County residents? In 2023, 120 young adults with developmental disabilities gained valuable work experience this summer!

Meet Jason. Through an essential Summit DD program, Jason has access to crucial assistive technology devices that help him access the world. Using digital braille devices, Jason can email and text on his computer and cell phone with family, friends and support staff. He has become so skilled in the technology, that he trains other individuals who are deaf and blind by working for a federally funded program called, I Can Connect. Watch his story below!
