(Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio) – In a continued effort to be fully inclusive, World Elite Kids (WEK) has partnered with the Summit County Developmental Disabilities Board (Summit DD) and Kent State University (KSU) to create a pilot program that can support local children with different abilities enrolled in their programs.

During the pandemic, technology went beyond doing business and socializing. Technology became a tool that many people and families served by Summit DD used for daily support. Our staff used video conferencing to conduct ISP meetings, check in on people or providers, and even do early intervention home visits with little ones. When technology is at its best, it is an amazing tool to help connect and engage us. But when there are problems or you need tech support, it can be a barrier. Drew Williams, Summit DD’s Director Community Supports and Development, knew there had to be a better way.

In 2017, Summit DD launched an innovative partnership focused on helping young adults with developmental disabilities prepare for the professional world once they graduate. The Transition Services for Youth program began as test pilot and has evolved into a successful and sustainable initiative that greatly impacts young adults in Summit County.

For the past three years, Summit DD has partnered with Summit County Jobs and Family Services to provide essential employment opportunities for local teens. In 2016, the program impacted 35 people and then in 2017 it grew to 40. This summer, Summit DD nearly doubled the impact—benefiting 79 teens.

In celebration of our dedicated team members, Summit DD hosted the 2026 Employee Recognition Picnic. We recognized the amazing efforts of nearly 75 employees with a combined service of more than 1,100 years! Summit DD also presented our exclusive Core Value Awards. Over 80 team members were nominated for exemplifying our values of Trust, Respect, Collaboration, Innovation, Inclusion and Excellence. The Summit County Board of Developmental Disabilities Board has launched a search for the organization’s next Superintendent following the retirement announcement of current Superintendent Lisa Kamlowsky, effective December 31, 2026. Board President Allyson V.
